Writing: A letter to a community leader

Write a letter to a community leader about  a topic in this unit that you feel strongly about. Use these questions to help you.

  1. What is your opinion about the topic or issue?
  2. What are two or three reasons that support your opinion?
  3. What do you think should be done?

Example:

Dear Councilwoman Lopez,

I am a student at Morris School, and I think students ought to be requiered to wear school uniforms. Students shouldn't be permitted to wear the latest fashions, because this promotes jealousy and competition. Also, students would be able to concetrate on their studies better if...

Dear Professor:


I'm a student in the Biological And Genetic research institute, here at the University. I'm highly concerned about the use and abuse of animals for research. I think something must be done in order to stop animal employment without any restriction. Many colleagues and me are interested in promote an ethical code about this issue.


We believe animals shouldn't be employed in human genetics research, and scientist ought to be required to check the biotherium activities.


I'm sure you agree with our ideas.Because animals must be treated with respect and us, as scientist, will remain quiet about our profession and our moral behavior.
